Kindle Electronic Book Reader - The Future of Books?

Earlier this decade, Amazon came to redefine the way we purchase books by making virtually the entire modern literary collection available for purchase online. They made it simple: you went online, ordered the book and it showed up on your doorstep a few days later. Fast forward a few years, and we find the company is revolutionizing books again with its Kindle electronic reader.
Kindle is a hand held digital book reader that allows you to wirelessly download new book, magazine or newspaper titles to the machine. Today, there are over 100,000 titles that can be downloaded in digital format, along with popular periodicals such as the New York Times; there are no shortage of titles for the device.
Featuring a high contrast screen, the titles are highly readable in most environments. Further, with the integrated keyboard, you can virtually "dog ear" and markup pages with notes that you can save for later review. One aspect to note is that the screen is currently black and white, so pictures will display in gray scale - the text presentation is quality, although if images are important to you, then you may want to stick with standard printed copies (until the next-gen Kindle.)
You can also browse blogs and news online using the built-in web browser. The system runs on the Sprint wireless network, and provides reasonably fast, reliable access. In addition to downloaded titles, the Kindle can display a wide range of document formats including PDF.
The device is highly ergonomic, although it may take some time to get used to for new users. Overall, I highly recommend the Kindle for regular readers. One aspect to consider is the possibility of a fully-integrated smart device that allows for reading, communications and more, perhaps along the lines of the iPhone reader, which may be the future of the next Kindle models.
