Earlier this decade, Amazon came to redefine the way we purchase books by making virtually the entire modern literary collection available for purchase online. They made it simple: you went online, ordered the book and it showed up on your doorstep a few days later. Fast forward a few years, and we find the company is revolutionizing books again with its Kindle electronic reader.

Kindle is a hand held digital book reader that allows you to wirelessly download new book, magazine or newspaper titles to the machine. Today, there are over 100,000 titles that can be downloaded in digital format, along with popular periodicals such as the New York Times; there are no shortage of titles for the device.

Featuring a high contrast screen, the titles are highly readable in most environments. Further, with the integrated keyboard, you can virtually "dog ear" and markup pages with notes that you can save for later review. One aspect to note is that the screen is currently black and white, so pictures will display in gray scale - the text presentation is quality, although if images are important to you, then you may want to stick with standard printed copies (until the next-gen Kindle.)

You can also browse blogs and news online using the built-in web browser. The system runs on the Sprint wireless network, and provides reasonably fast, reliable access. In addition to downloaded titles, the Kindle can display a wide range of document formats including PDF.

The device is highly ergonomic, although it may take some time to get used to for new users. Overall, I highly recommend the Kindle for regular readers. One aspect to consider is the possibility of a fully-integrated smart device that allows for reading, communications and more, perhaps along the lines of the iPhone reader, which may be the future of the next Kindle models.

Amazon Kindle

Kindle: Amazon's New Wireless Reading Device

Introducing Kindle™ Three years ago, we set out to design and build an entirely new class of device—a convenient, portable reading device with the ability to wirelessly download books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. The result is Amazon Kindle. We designed Kindle to provide an exceptional reading experience. Thanks to electronic paper, a revolutionary new display technology, you’ll find reading Kindle’s screen is as sharp and natural as reading ink on paper—and nothing like the strain and glare of a computer screen. Kindle is also easy on the fingertips. It never becomes hot, and is designed for ambidextrous use so both “lefties” and “righties” can read comfortably at any angle for long periods of time. We wanted Kindle to be completely mobile and simple to use for everyone, so we made it wireless. No PC and no syncing needed. Using the same 3G network as advanced cell phones, we deliver your content using our own wireless delivery system, Amazon Whispernet. Unlike WiFi, you’ll never need to locate a hotspot. There are no confusing service plans, yearly contracts, or monthly wireless bills—we take care of the hassles so you can just read. With Whispernet, you can be anywhere, think of a book, and get it in one minute. Similarly, your content automatically comes to you, wherever you are. Newspaper subscriptions are delivered wirelessly each morning. Most magazines arrive before they hit newsstands. Haven’t read the book for tomorrow night’s book club? Get it in a minute. Finished your book in the airport? Download the sequel while you board the plane. Whether you’re in the mood for something serious or hilarious, lighthearted or studious, Kindle delivers your spontaneous reading choices on demand. We’re very proud to introduce Kindle and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. - The Amazon Kindle Team

Revolutionary electronic-paper display provides a sharp, high-resolution screen that looks and reads like real paper. Simple to use: no computer, no cables, no syncing.
Wireless connectivity enables you to find, buy, and read instantly—whether you’re in the back of a taxi, at the airport, or in bed. Shop the Kindle Store directly from your Kindle. Buy a book and it is auto-delivered wirelessly in less than one minute

What about the students?

I think the kindle is a great product and a huge step up from the Sony ebook. I would purchase one in a heartbeat if it had college textbooks. College textbooks are expensive and heavy. It is impossible to fit the twelve college textbooks, that i am required to have for this upcoming semester, into my backpack. Even if the books did fit in my bag they would be too heavy for me to carry. College books are also very expensive. I often find myself spending hundereds of dollars each semester on books. Some of which a never even end up using. I would absolutley love to buy all my college textbooks and store them on the kindle. I feel that this piece of technology would be well worth the money if I could use it for school. I am sure that many other students feel the same way.

Love My Kindle

I tend to expect "less than", especially when purchasing a new gadget. What I got was More Than I expected with the Kindle. It is simple to operate and does everything it is supposed to do.

It is lightweight & easy on the eyes. There are thousands of books to choose from. Look forward to more newspapers and magazines becoming available.

The Kindle has me reading again! I highly recommend it!

Must Have for Commuters

It's not perfect, but in my opinion its the best new device since Tivo. Although not as flashy most new gadgets, it grows on you very quicikly. I was initially annoyed with how easy it is to accidentally turn pages, but got over it once I figured out how to hold it just right, which is no different that what is required of a new book, magazine or newspaper.

If you commute via public transportaion its great to be able to read the paper while standing and "turn pages" with one hand. Web-browser is more functional than I expected and does the job for reading news and sports scores. By turning off the wireless after downloading morning papaers it only needs a charge about once a week

The amazing new e-book reader launched by Amazon, called Kindle is the talk of the town these days. Here are a couple of things you need to be aware of while using the Kindle.

The amazing new e-book reader launched by Amazon, called Kindle is the talk of the town these days. About as small as a paperback book, this device is capable of reading all types of files right from Word docs to HTML to text files as well as .MOBI. Here are a couple of things you need to be aware of while using the Kindle.

Word doc transfers frugally

If you wish to transfer a Word document using Kindle you will need to shell out 10 cents for every file sent. So for all of you who are frugal minded there is a free alternative indeed. For obtaining free transfers of files you just need to send the attachment to 'name'@free.kindle.com where name stands for the ID used for your Kindle email address. So if the Kindle email ID is joanna@kindle.com then attachments need to be sent to joanna@free.kindle.com and then the file gets converted and emailed to the associated Amazon account. Then simply transfer the file to Kindle via a USB port.

Be in touch with the news

If you're a busy traveler who needs to be in sync with what's happening in the world, you can do so easily with the Kindle. It allows you to read through diverse newspapers and magazines via access through the EVDO internet connectivity. You can easily transfer these files onto your laptop for easy reading later! So if you are stuck at an airport or are on a plane you can always be in touch with the news no matter where you are. No need to print because you can directly read the news on Kindle itself!

Search ability

Kindle's Now. Now is a brand new search functionality which enables you to hunt for virtually anything you wish for. Using a query string you can now search for any topic you want. The search functionality provided by Kindle Now is powered by Mechanical Turn from Amazon which is a distributed work system.

Formatting convenience

Most standard pages follow the 8.5x11 inch dimension format. Transferring them into the reader like Sony's will mean that you need to format them yourself which can be very tedious and time consuming. Instead, Kindle can do the formatting for you perfectly for a small charge. You just need to send the file to Kindle and Amazon will convert and email the file back to you. Instead of doing the formatting all by yourself this seems like a great utility.

More fonts and faster page access

Now you can avail 6 new font types instead of the regular 3 fonts found in the Sony Reader. The new Kindle has 6 font types which make reading a pleasure. Besides this you can also turn through pages much faster and even their scrolling keys are a great feature.

Easy on your eyes and lightweight

On a sunny day you don't need to worry about the glare hurting your eyes while reading the Kindle. It has the unique e-ink technology which uses reflected light as compared to transmitted light. Also it has an electronic paper display which is easy on your eyes no matter what the weather is. Besides this it weighs just 10.3 ounces and so is completely lightweight and easy to carry.

Free wireless access provided

Considering that you get EVDO connectivity free of cost, the charge to convert files is a small price to pay. Besides this compared to the host of features Kindle provides the market price of 400 dollars isn't all that much.

Amazon Kindle Review

What is an Amazon Kindle? It is a wireless reading device created by Amazon that allows you to read newspapers, books, ebooks, magazines, blogs and more from a handheld device.

Amazon Kindle Review
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Stefani_Partin]Stefani Partin

What is an Amazon Kindle? It is a wireless reading device created by Amazon that allows you to read newspapers, books, ebooks, magazines, blogs and more from a handheld device. The kindle is about the size of your regular size paperback book. It connects to the Amazon Kindle Store, so you don't need to get online to download your media. You can read and buy books 24 hours a day. It even let's you surf the web, but the view you get is not as good as you would see from a regular computer. The Amazon store even has lots of FREE samples to download. All your books you purchase through the Amazon Kindle store will also be backed up on Amazon. If you lose your Kindle, you will still have your books you have purchased.

This device is very lightweight and can be taken anywhere you go. This is something that is great for the frequent traveler. No more packing and toting around heavy books. With the Amazon Kindle, you can download over 90,000 books and growing. These include most the New York Times Best Sellers. The Amazon Kindle can store up to 200 books and downloads the books within minutes. Can you pack around 200 books with you at all times? Another cool feature of the Amazon Kindle is it has a built in dictionary. You also have buttons to turn the page and when you are done, it will remember where you left off.

The Amazon Kindle automatically delivers your favorite magazines or newspaper to you each day. You can have your favorite magazines or newspapers, like The Wall Street Journal or Forbes, delivered to you each day before it hits the news stands. The kindle also automatically updates blog and feeds all day long.

There are only a few downsides to the Amazon Kindle. There is no place to rest your hands. There is no built in light, so you will have to in the light to view it. It also can be a bit on the high price end.

If you have the money to spend, I would recommend buying one of these gadgets. You will save space in your home, instead of filling your bookcase full of books. You will have your books at your fingertips. The Amazon Kindle uses electronic ink, which makes it look like you are reading an actual book too! If you are a book lover, this definitely should be on your wish list!

A00 Power Tip for use with Kindle
I have tested this with my Kindle, works fine, fit is as good as the stock charger

iGo with Me
The usefulness of this product really cannot be overstated. I use a Power Tip for my cell phone as well. With the Kindle (a product as revolutionary as Gutenberg's moveable type) Power Tip and the iGo, there is virtually no place you cannot go--my favorite is on the beaches of Northern California, and on any of the islands of Hawaii. No hot spot areas to worry about, no plugging in and having to be connected to the Kindle while it's being charged. You're free to charge and read in a cave or on Haleakala crater.

Another power tip from iGo
It fits perfectly but I wish they would produce new ones more quickly to meet the sale of newly introduced form factors. High quality and tough.

Need a Better Kindle Battery!
I love my Kindle, but the battery is pathetic and lasted only 4 months! After paying $400 for the Kindle and $9.99 for each book, who wants to pay $20 two or three times a year? Very disappointed!

The Kindle Battery
First and foremost, Kindle is an exceptional product. That being said, the battery provided for it, is not. After less than three months of moderate use, the battery that came with the Kindle went from working great to flat dead. I would definitely recommend that you buy at least one extra battery to have around just in case you find yourself inconvenienced by this poor product. Fortunately for us, the pricing on this battery is fairly low. Hopefully, the manufacturer is looking into this and will be providing better batteries down the road. {ssintrepid}

Don't leave home without it
I travel a lot (20 days a month or more) and always travel with my Kindle. Even though the Kindle's battery will last for several days, it seems to run out at the worst of times (like on a 4 hour plane ride). I carry the charger with me but this extra battery has helped me out more than once. I am giving it four stars due to the fact that it doesn't just slide or snap in, like most batteries do now. Still, I highly recommend it for anyone who owns a Kindle.

Amazing Little Machine

I was an avid reader at one time. My youngest daughter asked me one day if I knew what a Kindle was. I didn't, so she described it, and told me to look at it on Amazon.com. I did, I bought, and the rest is history! I've read 2 books in 1 week!
It is very user friendly. However, the on off button is an awkward place at the back of the Kindle, and the next page bar would be better a little smaller. However, all in all, I absolutely LOVE the Kindle. So much so that I purchased another Kindle for my oldest daughter for her 31 birthday. I've told anyone who'll listen about The amazing little machine!

No one should be without one

Really enjoying our 2nd Kindle. It is a joy to travel with. I find that I read faster, retain materials better and it is easy on the eyes. Nothing beats the availability of books at your fingertips. We had to buy a 2nd Kindle because I took over my husband's. Now we're both happy.

Kindle revivew

I LOVE this device! My husband gave it to me for an anniversary present...what a truly thoughtful gift! I have had a hard time putting it down. I love the ease of downloading books, reading without having to hold both sides of a book, and not worrying about pages turning accidentally. The only thing I don't like is that the on/off button is on the back and is difficult to get to. I highly recommend it to avid readers...what a way to go green and it is such a conversation starter when people see it.
